SFMOMA:
The Chronicles of San Francisco

San Francisco, CA
JR + San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

SFMOMA engaged Sensory Interactive to collaborate with the artist JR and the museum on their exhibit The Chronicles of San Francisco. The exhibit featured a large-scale video mural depicting 1200 San Franciscans at human scale. We were responsible for defining and realizing the right digital assets, software, and infrastructure to turn the artist’s digital content into an immersive experience for the public.

Sensory Interactive rendered views of the exhibit space from a variety of angles and the team settled on a 107-foot-long curved LED display. This approach drew visitors into the space and maximized their sense of immersion as they are surrounded by the massive, slowly moving digital image.

Our team worked with JR to explore various software solutions to smoothly drift the video across the display to expose the full narrative of the finished art piece, while maintaining display resolution and technology that best matched his vision for the exhibition. Sensory Interactive’s partnership with SFMOMA and JR succeeded in making the artwork standout and helping the technology disappear.
